Lookbook planner skill

Lesson 8 of 12 in Claude skills for shoots and campaigns.

Lesson

A skill that makes Claude plan a lookbook the way an art director and a producer do together. You give it your look list and say what the book is for. It writes a brief, offers three ways to order the collection and helps you choose, then draws the flatplan spread by spread at the page count your binding needs. It assigns looks to models from your fitting, orders the outfit changes for the day, gives each section a set or location, writes a timed running order and a shot list, and after the shoot builds the final order for print, the web, a buyer PDF and social.

Inside are the working rules of a lookbook shoot. Hair and makeup run from clean to strong, bare-skin looks go before waistbands leave marks, white pieces go on with a makeup hood, and hero looks are shot early in their light. Pacing rules keep faces out of the gutter and stop the book running three crossover spreads in a row. Print, Shopify, Instagram, accessibility and permit figures sit in reference files with their sources and the date they were checked, and a worked example follows a fictional label through every stage.

It cannot take photographs or make images, and it will not invent prices, style numbers, fabric claims or credits. Where the plan needs one, it leaves a marked gap and asks you. The timings it uses for changes and looks per day are planning figures, so give it your crew's real numbers when you have them. Printers differ, and your printer's specs win over the ones in the file. It works best with fitting photos of every look on the model who will wear it, and with code execution on, so it can hand you the flatplan and the shot list as files.

Install it and begin

  1. 01Install it in Claude CodeTerminal
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skillsunzip ~/Downloads/lookbook-planner.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/# Start it with /lookbook-planner. If this is your first skill, type /reload-skills once.

On claude.ai there is nothing to unzip: upload the zip as it is. Every step is on Install and use a Claude skill.

  2. 02Your first message to ClaudeText
Use the lookbook planner skill. We are [BRAND AND WHAT YOU MAKE] with [NUMBER] looks for [SEASON]. The lookbook is for [BUYERS, PRESS OR CUSTOMERS] and we need [PRINT, WEB, BUYER PDF, SOCIAL]. We have [NUMBER] models and [NUMBER] days at [STUDIO OR LOCATION]. My look list is attached. Start with the brief.

Attach your look list and, if you have them, fitting photos of every look on the model who will wear it. A rough list is fine, because the first stage tidies it.

Who it is forStockists, press and customers who keep it and read it in order.Shoppers, mostly on a phone, who may stop after the first few images.Wholesale buyers comparing ranges at market, who need every look clearly.
OrderThe story: opener, build, turn, peak, close.Hero look first, then the looks the brand most wants to sell, then the story by section.By delivery window, then by category, with every look numbered.
Opening imageThe strongest single frame, on a right-hand page.A 4:5 vertical that works at phone width, with no type over the face.A clean full-length front of the hero look.
PacingNo more than two crossover spreads in a row, and a detail or chapter spread every six to eight spreads. One image per screen on a phone; facing pairs side by side on desktop only. One look per page, same scale and position on every page, so looks compare.
Image size300 ppi at final size. A US Letter crossover with bleed needs 5175 x 3375 px, so it must be a horizontal frame. One ratio throughout, sRGB, long edge about 2000 to 2500 px.About 150 ppi at page size. Check the file size before you email it, because Gmail caps personal attachments at 25 MB.
CaptionsLook number on the page; style numbers and credits in an index at the back.Product names linked to the shop, and alt text describing each look.Look number, style numbers, colourways and delivery; prices only as the brand supplies them.
What breaks itA face or a key garment detail lost in the gutter.A print spread squeezed onto a phone screen.Mood frames that hide the garment.

Print figures come from the Smartpress and Greenerprinter guides and the email limit from Gmail's help page, checked on 17 and 18 October 2026. Your printer's own specs always win.

What to do it with

  • ClaudeFree tier, paid above it

A language model that writes, edits, reads long documents and runs tools, including agents that work inside a codebase.

Bad at It is agreeable by default, so it will improve a bad idea instead of telling you it is bad. Ask it to argue against you and the quality of the answer changes.

  • Claude CodeSubscription

An agent that reads a whole repository, edits files, runs the tests and explains what it changed.

Bad at It is fast enough to make a large mistake quickly. Work on a branch, read the diff, and never let it push. Watch the starting mode: on Pro, Max and Team plans it opens in auto mode, which Anthropic's own list says may read a .env file and send the key in it to the API that key belongs to. Switch it off.

The whole tool directory

Why it matters

Asked for a lookbook plan, a chat lists shots: front, back, detail, repeat. A lookbook is a sequence of pages and a shoot day, and both break in known places: a hero look shot at the tired end of the day, sock marks on bare legs, a face lost in the gutter, a crossover spread with no horizontal frame to fill it. This skill makes Claude plan the pages first and build the day backwards from them.
