A workflow that runs on its own also fails on its own, often at night. Nobody knows until a client asks. In n8n the answer is an error workflow, a second workflow that starts with an Error Trigger and sends you a message whenever another one fails, with a link straight to the run that broke. Make it once, then point each workflow at it under Settings in the Workflow menu, as its Error Workflow. n8n's docs say an error workflow needs no publishing, and its runs do not count towards your plan. You cannot test it by hand. The Error Trigger fires only when a run that started on its own fails.
