Collecting in a way you can find again

Lesson 4 of 10 in Moodboards and references.

Lesson

Everybody collects and almost nobody can find anything. The failure is always the same: images saved without a source, into a folder with no theme, in a system that is not the one you will be using in three years.

An object's chain of ownership, with a gap in the middle that has to be explained.
A designer kneels by an overflowing box of loose prints holding one up in confusion, while behind her a tidy board pins each picture by a thread to a small card with a camera and a photographer's portrait.
A designer holds up a saved picture with no idea who took it, while a colleague's board ties each picture to its photographer. Note the source when you save it, or lose it for good.
