Practical effects: water, smoke, wind

Lesson 8 of 11 in Set design.

Lesson

Haze makes light visible, which is why almost every photograph with a visible beam has smoke in it. Water gives movement and life, and photographing it is a craft of high-speed flash and a great many attempts. Wind makes fabric and hair behave.

An ink drawing of an assistant dropping a lemon into a water tank as a flash fires, with a bucket of used lemons, a mop and wet towels on the plastic-covered floor.
Dropping lemons into a tank again and again for one good splash.
