Boards and previsualisation

Lesson 2 of 11 in Shoot direction.

Lesson

Boarding is deciding the composition before the day, which is the cheapest place to decide it. A rough drawing costs four minutes and settles an argument that would cost an hour of studio time.

An ink drawing of an art director and photographer bending over rough stick-figure sketches and a top-down lighting plan on a table in an empty studio.
Rough sketches and a light plan settle the frame before the shoot day.
