Scale, and what the camera does to it

Lesson 6 of 11 in Set design.

Lesson

A camera records angles and knows nothing about scale, which is why a model of a building can read as a building and a real bottle can read as a bottle three times its size. Lens choice and distance decide it.

An ink drawing of a photographer lying low with a camera level with a small model staircase on a table, a coffee cup beside it larger than its arch.
A knee-high model staircase that a low camera will make look grand.
