Directing a model

Lesson 5 of 11 in Shoot direction.

Lesson

Telling somebody to look relaxed produces a person performing relaxation, which is the least relaxed thing a face can do. Giving them an action produces relaxation as a by-product: walk to the window and stop when you get there, then look back at me.

An ink drawing of a model walking toward a tape mark by a tall window and glancing back at the camera while the director points along her path.
Giving a model a simple action so the relaxed look comes by itself.
