Building a look

Lesson 2 of 11 in Styling.

Lesson

A look is built outward from one thing. On a product shoot that is the product; on fashion it is whatever the client is actually selling. Everything else is chosen to make that thing read, which usually means being quieter than it.

An ink drawing of a stylist holding plain knitwear and grey trousers against a rust coat on a dress form, with louder patterned pieces set aside on a rail.
A look built outward from one hero coat with quieter pieces around it.
