Environmental and retail graphics

Lesson 4 of 12 in Applications.

What is Environmental Graphic Design? · RSM Design
Lesson

A space is read at several distances at once, and each one wants something different. The fascia is read from across a road, the window from the pavement, the wall graphic from a few metres, and the shelf label from arm's length.

  1. Question 1, locked

A shop is being sized for graphics. The fascia is read from across a road and the shelf labels from arm's length. Where does the sizing work start?

    • With the shelf label, because the smallest type sets the minimum for everything above it
    • With the furthest reader, then work inwards, allowing roughly 25mm of letter height for every 10 metres
    • With one master artwork scaled proportionally, so every distance keeps the same relationships
    • With the wall graphic, because it sits at the average of the viewing distances
  2. Question 2, locked

Which of these words means this? “Brand applied to a physical space. Walls, windows, floors, fascias.”

    • Environmental graphics
    • Embroidery
    • Pantone TCX
    • Compound curve
  3. Question 3, locked

Which of these words means this? “How far away the reader is. Sets every size decision in the project.”

    • Stand
    • Build and strike
    • Touchpoint inventory
    • Viewing distance
