The one-page brand brief

Lesson 3 of 11 in Brand for founders.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 9 October 2026.

Lesson

An agency would hand a client a strategy deck of thirty slides. A founder needs one page. Shashank Mehta, who founded The Whole Truth, told Sajith Pai in 2026 that he brought a rule with him from Unilever, that if you cannot explain your brand on one page, you do not know your brand. A page is short enough to reread every time a decision comes up, which is its only job, and a deck that long would sit unopened in a folder by the second week. The Strategy module teaches the full method behind it, including the category audit and how to find an insight. The brand brief is what is left when you keep only the lines you will actually check choices against.

  1. Question 1, locked

Which of these would the lesson accept as proof for No. 4?

    • Pure and premium
    • Loved by thousands of customers
    • Pressed in small batches and sold in amber glass
    • The finest face oil in Kerala
  2. Question 2, locked

What test does the lesson give for every line of the brief?

    • Whether it fits on a phone screen
    • Whether a rival could sign it
    • Whether a model can understand it
    • Whether it uses fewer than ten words
  3. Question 3, locked

Why does No. 4 write its voice as pairs such as calm not sleepy?

    • So nobody overshoots into the failure named second
    • Because pairs are easier to translate into Malayalam
    • Because the law asks for a description of tone
    • So the brand can switch between the two moods
