Logo misuse rules

Lesson 10 of 18 in Identity systems.

7. The Importance of Logo Usage Guidelines | Theory · Canva
Lesson

A misuse rule is a boundary, and a boundary only teaches when it is drawn near where people actually walk. Most misuse pages draw it somewhere nobody was going: the mark stretched, rotated forty-five degrees, filled with a gradient. Nobody proposed any of that.

xclear space = the height of the markderived from the mark, so it scales
A mark with an exclusion zone measured from the mark itself.
A doodle of four identical-looking blue circle logos, each with a magnifying loupe above showing a small fault in colour, spacing, closeness to a trim line or shape.
Four copies of a mark look right until a loupe finds the fault: a blue that is slightly off, a hand-rebuilt gap, a trim edge too close, a faint squash.
