Using AI without looking like everyone else

Lesson 8 of 11 in Brand for founders.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 9 October 2026.

Lesson

AI tools save a founder hours. They draft product descriptions, write twenty versions of an ad, mock up a label on a bottle, resize a post for every format and widen a photograph to fit a story. The danger is quieter than any single mistake. Models produce something close to the average of everything they have seen, so a brand that hands them its choices drifts towards the generic middle of its category, and every face oil starts to sound like every other face oil. The AI course's lesson on the generic middle explains why this happens.

  1. Question 1, locked

What did the US Copyright Office conclude on 29 January 2025, as the lesson reports?

    • Every AI output is protected if the prompt is long enough
    • AI outputs are protected only where a human decided enough of the expression, and prompts alone are not enough
    • AI outputs belong to the company that made the model
    • AI outputs may be trademarked but never copyrighted
  2. Question 2, locked

What should you paste into a model before asking it for product copy?

    • A competitor's best-selling description
    • Nothing, so the model is not biased
    • Your one-page brief, voice pairs and word list
    • A list of trending hashtags
  3. Question 3, locked

For a product photograph, what does the lesson say may be generated?

    • Only the surface or background behind the real bottle
    • The whole shot, as long as the label reads clearly
    • The bottle itself, if the colours match the kit
    • Nothing at all, not even a background
