Emotion, and what it actually does in advertising

Lesson 9 of 12 in Brand psychology.

Lesson

The strongest evidence in this area comes from Les Binet and Peter Field's analyses of the IPA Effectiveness Databank, published as The Long and the Short of It in 2013, which find that emotionally led campaigns produce larger long-term business effects, while rational, offer-led work produces faster short-term ones.

A gardener waters two beds, one where a fast crop sprouts and then wilts over time and one where a sapling grows into a large tree, with more water going to the tree.
A gardener waters a quick crop that shoots up and wilts and a sapling that grows into a tree. Offer-led ads act fast and fade, while ads that move people keep building for years.
