System one and system two

Lesson 4 of 12 in Brand psychology.

Lesson

The two-system account, popularised by Daniel Kahneman, describes fast automatic judgement and slow deliberate reasoning. Most everyday buying runs on the first, which is why a pack that is easy to recognise beats an argument nobody reads.

An ink drawing of a commuter at a station kiosk grabbing a boldly marked snack without looking while a pack covered in dense small print sits untouched beside it.
A commuter grabs the bold pack in passing and never reads the wordy one.
