Creators and brands

Lesson 5 of 10 in Brands and internet culture.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 9 October 2026.

Lesson

Creators are a channel of their own in India now. A BCG report on India's creator economy was launched in Mumbai on 3 May 2025. It estimated that the country had 2 to 2.5 million active digital creators, counting anyone with more than 1,000 followers, and that only 8 to 10 per cent of them made money from it effectively. It also estimated that creators influence more than 30 per cent of consumer decisions. Treat those as one consulting firm's estimates, drawn from more than 1,900 consumers and 60 brands. The direction is clear enough. A young brand meets creators early, and how it works with them shapes how strangers first hear its name.

What does the lesson say a brand actually buys from a creator?

    • Borrowed trust
    • A follower count
    • Exclusive rights to the creator's voice

A founder sends a free bottle to a creator who never asked for it. Under ASCI's rules, what is that?

How does the lesson suggest judging audience overlap?

    • By the creator's follower count
    • By the figures in the creator's media kit
    • By reading the creator's comments
    • By how many brand deals the creator has done
