Members play it at four levels, with a new set every time. A few from this module:

  1. Question 1, locked

A studio draws a mark at poster scale, signs it off, then reduces it for the favicon and for embroidery. What tends to go wrong?

    • The detail closes up small, and the fix at that stage means redrawing the mark and reprinting everything
    • The mark reads as under-scaled on the poster, so the poster has to be laid out again
    • Nothing, as long as the artwork is vector and scales cleanly
    • The colours shift, because small reproductions use a different ink set
  2. Question 2, locked

A designer builds a flexible identity where the only fixed element is the typeface and everything else is free to vary. What does a customer end up seeing?

    • Several small companies rather than one confident one
    • One brand, since type is the strongest recognition cue a system has
    • A brand that dates quickly, because typefaces fall out of fashion first
    • Nothing unusual, until the company tries to register the mark
  3. Question 3, locked

Why does choosing an emblem set the minimum size for a whole identity in a way a separate symbol does not?

    • The name sits inside the shape, so the thing scales as a unit and the interior type decides the floor
    • Emblems are drawn with finer strokes than symbols are
    • Emblems have to be reproduced in full colour, which rules out small print
    • Emblems are usually circular, and circles lose more detail than squares when reduced
