  1. Question 1, locked

Two marks go to a registry on the same day. One is a drawn knight, one is a company name set in a licensed sans. Why does the drawn one usually cost less to register?

    • Drawn devices are filed in fewer classes, so the fee is smaller
    • A device can be registered without evidence of use, and a word cannot
    • The examiner has fewer existing marks to compare an unusual mark against
    • A word has to be cleared against every language the registry covers, and a drawing does not
  2. Question 2, locked

A guideline says the logo appears at forty millimetres. Another says the clear space around it always equals the height of its own letterform. Why does the second one survive handover?

    • Designers follow rules written as proportions and ignore rules written in millimetres
    • A relationship holds at any size and on any format, while the fixed number breaks the first time somebody makes a business card
    • Forty millimetres is simply too big, so the number is wrong rather than the method
    • Clear space gets checked when artwork is approved and logo size never does
  3. Question 3, locked

You write down the six or eight situations in which somebody might buy what you sell, in the words they would use. What does an early brand usually turn out to be?

    • Attached to exactly one of them, usually the founder's own, and invisible in the rest
    • Attached weakly to all of them, so none of them fires first
    • Attached to the situations its heaviest buyers use, which are also the most profitable
    • Attached to whichever situation its most recent advertising described
