Lesson 23 of 27 in Colour.

The Basics: What are ICC Profiles? - Fotospeed | Paper for Fine Art & Photography · Fotospeed
Lesson

Colour management is the machinery that lets a file made on one device come out approximately right on another. It works by describing each device with a profile and converting between them through a common reference.

Two people at a grey viewing booth compare a printed fruit still life with the same picture on a monitor, one pointing at a patch of the print.
A designer and a printer compare a proof under a daylight lamp with the same image on screen. Colour is checked on something physical before the job is printed.
