Type in motion

Lesson 7 of 10 in Motion and time.

The art of kinetic typography: Dan Boyarski at TEDxCMU · TEDx Talks
Lesson

Type in motion has one hard constraint that ordinary typography does not: the reader cannot control the pace. A line that appears for one second is gone whether or not it was read, and the viewer cannot go back.

even spacing · no weighteased · the object has masssame duration, same distance
The same distance covered with even spacing and with eased spacing.
Three phone frames where a line of blocky shapes slides in over a beach photo, a sketched eye reads halfway along it, and the line disappears before the eye reaches the end.
A viewer's eyes are only halfway along a moving line of type when it vanishes. Nobody can slow a video down, so how long words stay up is a type decision.
