No. 4's mark, from brief to file pack

Lesson 12 of 12 in Logo design, start to finish.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 9 October 2026.

Lesson

This is the whole process run once, on No. 4, the face oil pressed in small batches in Kochi and sold in amber glass. The founder was the client. The Illustrator module's last lesson shows the wordmark being drawn click by click, so this one keeps to the decisions, in the order this module teaches them, with the real settings and words used at each step.

  1. Question 1, locked

Why does No. 4's wordmark keep its full stop?

    • It balances the width of the 4
    • Without it, the first word reads as a plain no
    • The trademark register requires punctuation
    • EB Garamond's full stop is especially attractive
  2. Question 2, locked

The wordmark ran together inside a 16 pixel square. What became No. 4's small-size version?

    • A drop symbol in Tile green
    • The wordmark with tighter tracking
    • The tagline in small capitals
    • The numeral alone, in Cream label on Amber
  3. Question 3, locked

How was the minimum width of No. 4's rubber stamp decided?

    • It was the smallest width at which the full stop and the 4 stayed apart
    • The stamp maker's standard size was used
    • It matched the width of the favicon
    • The founder chose it by eye
