Lesson

A style is a handful of decisions that a second person can follow. Outline the shapes or leave them bare. Keep the line one weight or let it swell. Light the drawing from one light source or leave it flat, then settle how many colours it may use, how people are built and whether the mark shows any brush texture. The published guides in this module all write their rules as choices like these. Lenskart's lines are dark blue at 1.2 points. Pleo asks for a high-contrast, smooth brush with no texture, whether the drawing is raster or vector, and a palette usually limited to two or three colours.

    • A larger mini with the details removed
    • An icon
    • A photograph cropped to the same size
    • A one-colour version of the mini
  2. Question 2, locked

Which of the four tests does a moodboard hide, according to the lesson?

    • Whether the style says what the brand says
    • Whether it holds up at its smallest use
    • Whether it looks like a competitor's style
    • Whether someone other than the first illustrator can draw it
  3. Question 3, locked

ConvertKit chose a hand-drawn look and Pleo ruled texture out. What did both brands do when choosing?

    • Wrote down what their style must not become
    • Banned hand-drawn lines from their products
    • Drew only with vector brushes
    • Limited every drawing to a single colour
