Lesson 7 of 12 in Logo design, start to finish.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 9 October 2026.

Illustrator: How to Smooth and Refine Paths (Video Tutorial) · CreativePro
Lesson

One route has won on paper. Drawing it clean turns that sketch into the master file, the single vector drawing every later version is made from. The Illustrator module teaches the Pen tool and Pathfinder, and its last lesson redraws No. 4's wordmark and four icons click by click, so none of that is repeated here. This lesson is about what makes a logo drawing clean, which comes down to the number of points, the shape of the curves and the small corrections the eye asks for.

  1. Question 1, locked

What does ticking Template in Illustrator's Layer Options do for a scanned sketch?

    • It traces the sketch into vector paths automatically
    • It turns the layer into a template layer and dims the image
    • It converts the sketch to CMYK
    • It hides the sketch when you export
  2. Question 2, locked

A circle and a square drawn to exactly the same height sit side by side. What will most people see?

    • The circle looks shorter, which is why round shapes overshoot
    • The circle looks taller, so it should be shrunk
    • They look identical, because the measurements match
    • The square looks shorter, so it should be enlarged
  3. Question 3, locked

How does the lesson find single anchor points left behind in a logo file?

    • Object > Path > Outline Stroke
    • View > Pixel Preview
    • Object > Compound Path > Make
    • Select > Object > Stray Points, then Delete
