Alignment, rag and justification

Lesson 11 of 34 in Typography.

Graphic Design Theory #8 - Justification vs Alignment · Yes I'm a Designer
Lesson

Typographic alignment en.wikipedia.org is which edge of the column the text agrees to line up with. Flush left with a ragged right is the default, and the reason it is the default is that it gives every line the same starting point and lets the word spaces stay exactly as the designer of the typeface drew them. Justified is flush on both sides. Centred and flush right exist. They are almost always for short things.
