Orthographic projection

Lesson 9 of 14 in Drawing and form.

First angles vs Third angle method | Orthographic projections animation · ADTW Study
Lesson

Orthographic projection shows an object through several flat views, each looking straight on, with no convergence. Nothing gets smaller with distance, which means a measurement taken from the drawing is a real measurement.

three edges: 30°, 30° and straight upparallel lines stay parallel, so every length can be measured
An isometric cube with equal measures on three axes.
A carpenter lays a rule on a drawing of a stool shown in three flat views and uses callipers to transfer a length onto a piece of timber.
A carpenter measures straight off a flat drawing of a stool's front, side and top. Flat views keep every length true, so they can be built from.
