Alignment and edge relationships

Lesson 22 of 27 in Composition and layout.

Alignment, Balance, and Grids (Principles of Layout: Pt 3 of 3) · Flux Academy
Lesson

Alignment is the cheapest way to make a layout look considered, because shared edges create invisible lines that hold unrelated elements together. Most amateur layouts improve dramatically from aligning things that were nearly aligned already.

this one is 14px outone edge, held
Elements sharing one left edge, with one out of line.
Two rows of a square, a circle and a downward triangle on a guide line, the top row exact but uneven-looking with a cross, the bottom row with a small overshoot and a tick.
A square, a circle and a point touch the same line, yet the round and pointed ones look like they float. Nudged slightly past the line, all three finally look level.
