Lesson 20 of 27 in Colour.

CG101: What is Spot Color Printing? · Pluralsight Courses and Tutorials
Lesson

Printing in two or three spot colours rather than full process is cheaper for some jobs, more exact, and produces a look full colour cannot. It also forces decisions, which is most of why the results tend to be strong.

one inktwo inksoverprinttwo inks buy you three colours and the paperwhich is why a limited palette is not a poorer one
One ink, then two, then two overprinted to make a third.
A printer in a workshop holds up a portrait printed in blue and yellow, with two ink tins and rollers on the bench and more prints drying overhead.
A printer lifts a photo printed with only two inks, blue and yellow. A duotone spreads a picture's darks and lights across two colours and keeps its depth.
