The redesign, and when a magazine should not have one

Lesson 10 of 10 in Editorial design.

Lesson

Publications are redesigned for three reasons and only one of them is good. The good one is that the publication has genuinely changed what it does. The bad ones are a new editor wanting a mark on it, and a circulation problem being handed to the design department.

An ink drawing of a shelf of one magazine's issues from faded to new, all with the same masthead band while the covers below change little by little.
Years of one magazine where the masthead stays and the rest shifts gently.
