Lesson

This is one working session on No. 4, the face oil pressed in small batches in Kochi and sold in amber glass. The job was the brand's wordmark as clean vector artwork, plus four small icons for the site and the label that look like one family. They show a drop, the bottle, a morning sun and an evening moon. The brief fixed the type early. The wordmark is No. 4 as typed, in EB Garamond at weight 600 with tracking 20 and no symbol, in Walnut, #2a2420, on Cream label, #f3ede2.

  1. Question 1, locked

No. 4's wordmark is set at 120 pt with tracking 20. How much space does that add after each letter?

    • 20 points
    • 1.2 points
    • 2.4 points
    • 12 points
  2. Question 2, locked

Text to Vector Graphic gives you a drop icon with one good idea in it. What does the lesson tell you to do?

    • Copy the idea by hand onto your own clean drawing and delete the generated drop
    • Use the generated drop as the final icon
    • Trace it again with Image Trace
    • Turn it into the second colourway
  3. Question 3, locked

Why was every No. 4 icon drawn inside the same 20-pixel square on its 24-pixel artboard?

    • Export for Screens needs an empty margin
    • So the four read as one size before any detail goes in
    • Because an SVG cannot hold artwork at its edge
    • To leave room for a print bleed
