Isometric Drawing - The Basics · Art Bites
Lesson

Isometric projection en.wikipedia.org throws away the vanishing point. Parallel edges stay parallel forever, the three axes are foreshortened equally, and the horizontal axes are conventionally drawn at 30 degrees to the horizontal. Nothing gets smaller as it recedes, which means the drawing shows no particular viewer standing anywhere. There is no eye level, because there is no eye.

three edges: 30°, 30° and straight upparallel lines stay parallel, so every length can be measured
An isometric cube with equal measures on three axes.
A person kneeling on a rug among shelf panels holds one against a wordless angled line drawing of the parts, with the half-built shelf behind them.
Someone builds a flat-pack shelf from a wordless isometric drawing. Nothing shrinks with distance in isometric, so parts can be measured straight off the page.
