Type in Photoshop lives on type layers and stays editable. With the Horizontal Type tool, one click starts point text, a single line with no box around it, which suits a headline you will set large across a photograph and then nudge by eye until it sits right. Drag instead and you get paragraph text. The words wrap inside the box you drew, which suits a caption. Since the August 2026 release, Dynamic Text can also flow type along any shape or path. A headline on a photograph sits well in Photoshop. A long block of reading text belongs in InDesign or Figma, where paragraph styles and long pages are easier to keep in order.

  1. Question 1, locked

You want a headline that runs in one line across a photograph. How do you start it with the Horizontal Type tool?

    • Drag a box, to make paragraph text
    • Click once, to make point text
    • Draw a path first with the Pen tool
    • Place a text file as a Smart Object
  2. Question 2, locked

A small product shot sits inside a Smart Object. What happens if you scale it up to fill a 1080 by 1920 story?

    • It stays sharp, because Smart Objects keep vector quality
    • Photoshop refuses to scale it past its original size
    • It softens, because a Smart Object cannot add detail that was never there
    • It turns into a generative layer that fills in the detail
  3. Question 3, locked

What width does the lesson tell you to export at for Instagram, and why?

    • 1080 pixels, because Instagram uploads photos at up to that width
    • 2160 pixels, so Instagram has extra detail to sharpen
    • 1350 pixels, to match the height of a 4:5 post
    • Any width, since Instagram always keeps the original file
