The carousel, and its first and last slides

Lesson 3 of 11 in Social and content design.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 9 October 2026.

Lesson

A carousel is one post that holds several frames, and people swipe through them sideways. Instagram's help says a post can carry up to 20 photos and videos, and that the frame you choose, whether square, tall or wide, applies to every one of them. A carousel ad is smaller. Meta's Ads Guide allows 2 to 10 cards. LinkedIn has its own version. A document post is a file, ideally a PDF, whose pages are swiped like slides, and Pinterest's carousel ads take 2 to 5 images, or up to 10 for sales campaigns.

  1. Question 1, locked

Why does the lesson suggest designing an ad carousel differently from an organic one?

    • Ad carousels can only hold three cards
    • Meta may show each person a different card first
    • Ad carousels must be square
    • Ads never show the last card
  2. Question 2, locked

You build slide three of an Instagram carousel at a different shape from the others. What happens?

    • Instagram keeps each slide's own shape
    • The post is refused
    • Instagram turns the whole post into squares
    • That slide gets cropped, because one frame applies to every item
  3. Question 3, locked

What does LinkedIn's help say you can do with a document post after it is shared?

    • Swap the PDF for a corrected one
    • Edit it for the first hour only
    • Edit the description or remove the post, but not change the document
    • Replace the first page only
