Running heads, folios and furniture

Lesson 5 of 10 in Editorial design.

Lesson

Furniture is the small repeating apparatus that tells a reader where they are: page numbers, section names, credits, the line that says a piece continues on page ninety-four. It is designed once and appears everywhere, so an hour spent on it shows up on every page of the issue.

An ink drawing of hands flicking through a thick magazine, with a small mark at each bottom corner and a thin line at each top edge repeating on every page.
Small repeating page marks that stay steady as a reader flicks through.
