The brief a machine can act on

Lesson 2 of 10 in AI art direction.

How structured thinking gives your AI superpowers ft. Carola Pescio Canale (Atlassian) | Config 2026 · Figma
Lesson

A brief written for a person survives vagueness, because a person asks. Premium, clean and modern will produce a conversation, then a question, then something reasonable. The same three words given to a machine produce the average of every premium clean modern image ever captioned.

A corkboard. On the left, three reference photos, each with a thread pointing to one detail: a shadow edge, a tight crop, a patch of colour. On the right, five small sketches crossed out: a hand, a person facing camera, a blazing sun, a white ground and a centred vase.
The threads say what each reference is for. The crossed-out column says who the brand is.
