Skin, and the flaw fidelity argument

Lesson 5 of 10 in AI photography.

Lesson

Generated faces fail in a consistent direction. They are too even, too symmetrical, too clean, and lit too flatteringly, because those are the qualities of the retouched images the models learned from. The result looks like a person who has been through a beauty filter twice.

A close-up of an invented woman's face split down the middle. The left half shows pores, freckles, fine hairs and a crease by the eye. The right half is smooth as porcelain, with a flat, doll-like eye and no texture.
The left half is a person. The right half has had everything a camera records wiped away.
