Composition control: depth, pose and edges

Lesson 5 of 12 in AI image making.

ControlNet Explained: How to Control AI Images in ComfyUI · Seb G.
Lesson

Left alone, a model decides the composition, and it decides it the average way. Control methods put that decision back in your hands: a depth map fixes the space, a pose fixes the body, an edge map fixes the outline, and the prompt then only has to describe everything else. Most of these controls are ControlNet models, run in a node tool such as ComfyUI, and some hosted image services offer depth and edge versions of their models.

Depth, pose and edge maps feeding one generation, each fixing a different property.
A small wooden artist's mannequin on a table stands with one arm raised and its weight on one leg. Behind it hangs a large drawing of a woman in a sunny room in exactly the same pose, with dotted lines joining their joints.
The mannequin decides the pose. Everything around it is left for the model to fill.
