Your first Veo call, in code

Lesson 2 of 10 in Hosted video models, hands on.

Checked against the makers' documentation on 25 September 2026.

Lesson

A Veo call has three steps. Every tool in this module repeats them, whatever the maker calls them. You send the prompt and the settings, and the API hands back an operation name at once, because a clip takes between 11 seconds and 6 minutes to render by Google's own figures. You ask about that name every ten seconds until it says done, then download the file, since Google deletes generated videos from its servers after two days.

One Veo call in three steps: your script posts the job and gets an operation name, asks every ten seconds until done, then downloads the video link, which Google keeps for two days.

A Veo call hands you a ticket at once, and the clip arrives later on the rail.
