Parameters, constraints and seeds

Lesson 2 of 10 in Generative design.

Code goes in, Art comes out - Tyler Hobbs · ClojureTV
Lesson

A generative system is defined by two lists: what can vary and what cannot. Beginners write long lists of parameters and short lists of constraints, and get a system that produces noise. The good ones are the other way round.

From above, a five-by-five grid of paper tiles. Each row adds a circle and each column tilts them further. A small tray at the side holds just five paint pots, and a hand points to one tile in the far corner.
Vary one thing per row and column, limit the pots to five, and the interesting corner shows itself.
