Shooting a reference so the model has something true

Lesson 8 of 10 in AI photography.

How to 3D Scan Small & Detailed Objects — Photogrammetry Tips for Beginners | Polycam · Polycam
Lesson

Before you generate anything, spend an hour by a window taking forty photographs of the product on your phone. Every angle, a few distances, a few details, a neutral ground, a grey card in the first frame. That set anchors everything you generate afterwards.

A person kneels by a tall window photographing a small jar on a plain board with a phone. A grey card leans against the jar, and dozens of plain prints of the jar from every angle lie around them on the floor.
Plain, complete and neutral. This unglamorous hour is what keeps every later image true to the product.
