Sound, and doing it properly

Lesson 6 of 10 in AI video.

The Magic of Making Sound · Great Big Story
Lesson

Generated video arrives silent or with something approximate, and sound is where a great deal of the perceived production value actually lives. A mediocre picture with excellent sound reads as a film. An excellent picture with no atmosphere reads as a demo.

A foley studio. A person in headphones walks shoes over a tray of gravel in front of a microphone while a garden path is projected on the wall. Around them are a cabbage, coconut halves, a small door on a frame, a bucket and a tin sheet.
Half of what makes a film feel real is made here, on gravel, with coconuts and a door.
