Iteration, and the difference between rerolling and directing

Lesson 9 of 13 in Prompting for creatives.

Refining your vision: A guide to AI image editing · Google Cloud Tech
Lesson

Two people can generate four hundred images and only one of them is working. The difference is whether anything was learned between runs. Rerolling is pulling a lever; directing is changing one variable, looking at the result, and keeping the finding.

seed fixed · one word changedthe difference is the wordseed free · same promptthe difference is the dicelock the seed and a prompt becomes a variable you can testleave it free and every run is a fresh draw
The same seed producing identical images, and free seeds producing different ones.
Split in two. On the left, a person pulls the lever of a tall machine that pours out a pile of almost identical prints. On the right, a person sits at a desk comparing two nearly identical prints, pencil ready over a notebook.
Left, pulling a lever. Right, changing one thing and writing down what happened.
