Regulation, and what is actually law

Lesson 11 of 11 in Rights, ethics and the argument.

EU’s AI rules explained · European Parliament
Lesson

Most of what constrains a design studio today is existing law rather than new legislation: advertising law, consumer protection law, copyright, data protection and personality rights, all of which applied before and apply unchanged.

A shiny new machine is wheeled into an old workshop full of well-worn measuring tools on the walls. An inspector has already taken down an old ruler and is measuring a print the new machine has just made.
The machine is new; the rulers are not. Existing rules already measure what it makes.
