Lesson 2 of 13 in Prompting for creatives.

Lesson

The comma habit came from the first generation of tools, where prompts really were tag lists, and it has outlived its usefulness. Current text encoders read syntax. Given a sentence they can tell that the light is falling on the bottle rather than that light and bottle are both present, and that difference is the picture.

Split in two. On the left, an amber bottle, a slab of pale stone and a softbox lie in a tangled heap. On the right, the same objects are arranged: the bottle stands on the stone, lit from the left, with a long soft shadow to the right.
Same three things. A list drops them in a heap; a sentence puts them in relation.
