Lesson

The checklist a pasted product has to pass was given in Holding a product across a set. This lesson is the technique behind it. The scene is generated, the product is photographed or rendered, and the join is made invisible by small corrections that have been standard in retouching for thirty years. Each one gets its method here, from a plate planned for the product to the single grade that makes two elements one photograph.

generated plate+real product=one photographthe contact shadowis what stops itfloatingmatch perspective, scale, temperature, then grade both together
A generated plate, a photographed product and a contact shadow combining into one image.
A kitchen counter with faint guide lines converging toward a window. A glass bottle stands on the counter lined up with them, with a thin dark shadow at its base and warm window light along one edge. A hand with a soft brush finishes the shadow.
The guide lines, the dark contact shadow and the warm edge are what stop the bottle floating.
