Accessibility, checked automatically and by hand

Lesson 7 of 11 in AI for interface design.

How to Check Web Accessibility with a Screen Reader and Keyboard · ExpandTheRoom
Lesson

Automated checks are genuinely useful and genuinely partial. They catch contrast, missing labels and malformed structure, which is real, and they cannot tell you whether the reading order makes sense or whether a label describes what the button does.

A cutaway paper house. At the entrance, an inspection machine raises a flag to show it passed. Inside, a person with headphones and closed eyes follows a guide rope that loops confusingly between rooms, stopping at a door that is only painted on.
The machine passed it. Only walking through it found the painted door.
