Lesson

MCP is an open standard for connecting AI applications to outside systems, and its own site compares it to a USB-C port. For a coding agent it means tools can be added without writing them. A server is a small program that offers named tools, such as searching the Hugging Face Hub or generating a video, and once it is connected the agent can call those tools the way it runs a command, with your approval where you have asked for it. Some servers run on your machine. Others live at a web address and sign you in through the browser.

What an MCP server sits between: the agent sends a tool call to a server such as Hugging Face, ElevenLabs or Higgsfield, which calls its own service and sends a result back; each call waits for your approval, and a result can carry hidden instructions.

Each MCP server is one more thing plugged in, and one socket stays locked.
