Design systems as the thing that makes generation usable

Lesson 3 of 11 in AI for interface design.

The future of design systems and AI | Schema by Figma 2025 · Figma
Lesson

Generation without a system produces plausible screens made of loose rectangles. Generation with one produces screens made of your components, at your spacing, in your colours, because the system has removed the decisions the model would otherwise have invented.

A small press stamps paper screen layouts from a tray of matching blocks. One block has a chipped corner, and every layout in the long row coming off the press shows the same chip in the same spot.
One chipped block, forty chipped screens. Whatever is in the system gets copied everywhere.
