Version control for images

Lesson 5 of 10 in AI creative workflows.

Lesson

Design work has never had version control in the way code does, and generated work needs it more, because the inputs are text and numbers and are therefore recordable. Every delivered image should carry the prompt, seed, model, version and settings that produced it.

seed fixed · one word changedthe difference is the wordseed free · same promptthe difference is the dicelock the seed and a prompt becomes a variable you can testleave it free and every run is a fresh draw
The same seed producing identical images, and free seeds producing different ones.
A branching tree painted on a wall with prints hanging at its forks, each with a small tag tied on. The first rough print sits at the root, and a hand reaches back down one branch to take an earlier version.
Every version stays on the tree with its tag. Going back three steps is a reach, not a rebuild.
