The words vendors use that mean nothing

Lesson 9 of 9 in The vocabulary.

Lesson

Every field develops words that survive because they cannot be checked, and this one is generating them faster than most. The test is always the same: does the claim say what the thing does, or how it would fail.

At a market stall, a seller holds up a big shiny bottle surrounded by sparkles. The buyer ignores the sparkle and inspects the bottle through a magnifying glass, holding a tape measure in the other hand.
The seller brings sparkle. The buyer brings a magnifier and a tape measure.
